Commercial Manager

Location: Ilkeston
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Up to £75,000 per year

The client is a leading provider of innovative precast concrete sleepers and infrastructure solutions, primarily serving the rail industry. Their products include sleepers for metro, light rail, and high-speed rail systems, as well as larger precast systems for infrastructure projects. The client prioritizes sustainability and cutting-edge engineering to deliver high-quality solutions for rail networks and broader infrastructure needs.


Role Description:

The client is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to oversee the commercial aspects of various projects, with a focus on managing NEC contracts, budgets, and subcontractor relationships. This role is integral to ensuring the efficient and cost-effective delivery of key projects while maintaining strong client and stakeholder relationships.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer NEC contracts with clients and subcontractors, ensuring compliance and effective communication.
  • Manage contractual variations and event management processes, including early warnings and compensation events.
  • Provide commercial guidance and resolve issues in collaboration with project teams.
  • Interpret and apply NEC principles, advising stakeholders on risk and opportunities.
  • Evaluate subcontractor applications, certify payments, and manage financial submissions to clients.
  • Oversee project budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting, ensuring alignment with commercial objectives.
  • Liaise with legal advisors to ensure contracts meet required standards.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.



Skills & Experience Required:

  • Proficient in NEC3/4 contract administration and principles.
  • Relevant professional membership (e.g., RICS, CIPS) is desirable.
  • Experience in construction, infrastructure, or engineering sectors is essential.
  • Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Bachelors degree in Business, Quantity Surveying, or a related field (Master’s degree is a plus).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and contract management software.
