Estimator / Quantity Surveyor

The role involves producing project estimates from enquiries received and leading the procurement of materials and trades for secured projects. This position requires working in a fast-paced environment to deliver projects efficiently while maintaining company margins and meeting project deadlines. You will collaborate closely with the internal team and supply chain to produce detailed quotations, raise purchase orders, manage project budgets, and approve supplier invoices.


Key Responsibilities

Tender Management:
Review tender enquiries from new and existing clients, generate scopes of work based on tender documentation, schedules, or site visits, and provide expert guidance on project budget feasibility at early stages. Produce quotations based on anticipated labour and material costs, obtain quotes from sub-contractors and suppliers, and confidently address tender queries. Compile and submit final tenders in line with deadlines, handle post-tender queries, undertake value engineering exercises, and participate in contract sum negotiations.
Project Procurement and Management:
Negotiate with subcontractors and trades to achieve optimal cost value. Act as the Commercial Lead for secured projects by overseeing subcontractor and supplier orders, managing cost updates, submitting interim valuations, and compiling final accounts for client approval. Conduct post-project cost analysis for internal review.
Client and Supplier Relations:
Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers, and identify new opportunities within prospective markets and clients.

Compensation:
£45,000-£55,000 (negotiable depending on experience), car allowance, mobile phone, and laptop (including personal use).

Essential Experience and Requirements

5 years of experience as a self-managing Estimator or Quantity Surveyor in the UK commercial interior design and fit-out sector is essential. You should have strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and costs, and be proficient in using industry-standard estimating software and tools. The role requires exceptional analytical and numerical skills, attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple tenders and projects simultaneously, and a solid understanding of relevant building codes and regulations. Previous experience in cultivating and maintaining client relationships is also crucial.


Key Skills and Abilities

You must be highly skilled in Microsoft Excel and IT systems, including project file and email management. Experience in problem-solving within a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment is essential, along with excellent communication, organisational, and time-management skills. Familiarity with SAGE accounts and AutoCAD software is preferred but not essential.


Personal Attributes

The role requires a full UK driving license and occasional travel for site surveys or meetings. The ideal candidate will be personable, approachable, and a confident team player, demonstrating loyalty and commitment to the business.
