Our client, a leading contractor within the Water industry are currently looking to hire a Head of Commissioning in the Midlands area, covering projects across the Severn Trent Region. In this role, you will pull together and ensure the successful delivery of Commissioning activities across the region.

The role will entail discussing and negotiating complex MEICA (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control, and Automation) issues, formulate credible solutions and work collaboratively with clients to achieve the best outcome, integrating new equipment into existing treatment works, overseeing full-spectrum MEICA installation and commissioning, witnessing and confirming acceptance against approved documentation.

You will also be responsible for developing commissioning strategies, reviewing design calculations, leading Commissioning staff, ensuring compliance with CDM (Construction Design and Management) regulations, review existing processes, assist in engineering design production, ensuring high standards of HSQE are maintained at all times, compiling handover documentation in line with client KPIs.

Duties will include but not limited to:

  • Active stakeholder engagement across commissioning and operations teams.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, stakeholders and clients on complex MEICA projects.
  • Developing and approving commissioning plans, alongside other relevant MEICA documentation.
  • Overseeing development of engineering specifications and design calculations, including for tenders.
  • Promoting the highest level of HSQE standards consistently across all schemes.
  • Full life cycle control of regional MEICA activities, from Procurement, Planning & Operational Management, signing off FATs (Factory Acceptance Tests) and SATs (Site Acceptance Tests).
  • Providing value engineering and technical support to MEICA teams as required.
  • Reviewing, appointing and managing subcontractors as required.
  • Creating end-user and client reports, compile handover documentation
  • Ensuring KPIs are met, also ensuring works met quality standards.
  • Developing a close working relationships with clients, staff and supply chain.

Candidates will ideally have:

  • Worked in a similar position before, developing Commissioning strategies and leading teams of Commissioning / MEICA staff.
  • Strong experience working within the Water industry, including the successful delivering of AMP7 projects, or similar. (Prior experience working with Severn Trent Water is preferred but not essential).
  • A relevant qualification such as a Degree / HNC / City & Guilds, relating to Commissioning or MEICA activities. (Chartership preferred but not essential).
  • Strong working knowledge of MEICA and Commissioning activities, including engineering principles.
  • Working understanding of water and wastewater treatment facilities, processes & standards.
  • Working knowledge of HSQE and construction regulations, documentation & standards.
