Health and Safety Advisor - North-West (Manchester based but with travel) - construction/utilities - £35k-£50k+car/car allowance and benefits. Great company with opportunity to train, develop and grow within a close knit team.  

Job Summary:-

Support site teams to promote and embed good Health and Safety practice throughout the organisation, and drive improvements to the health safety and wellbeing of all employees and supply chain.

Responsibilities:-

  • Ensure all sites are inspected/audited and the appropriate data is uploaded & distributed to the appropriate people.
  • Carry out Tool Box Talks & Safety Briefings when required
  • Assist in the production of monthly HSQE reports.
  • Help deal with enquiries from statutory bodies; HSE, EA and local authorities.
  • Clearly demonstrate that to our clients and external stakeholder that we not only meet HSQE expectations, but also exceed them in terms of compliance with recognised codes of practice.
  • Willingly participate in workshops, steering groups and any other public events both internally and externally to our clients and supply chain.
  • Assist the site teams on HSQE matters and help them discharge their duties.
  • Help the site teams with Risk Assessments & Method Statements
  • Treat others fairly and openly with respect regardless of their position or status. Deal with enquiries professionally and within the stipulated timescales.
  • Encourage effective ‘upward’ communication to establish reporting of unsafe conditions and practices.
  • Work as part of a collaborative team, deal with HSQE problems quickly and effectively.
  • Report and investigate any HSQE incidents with an even-handed, consistent approach.
  • Must be an outstanding role model for H&S compliance and be prepared to passionately promote good H&S practice
  • Always exercise a high degree of discretion regarding employee’s personal details
  • Maintain standards of professional practice, ensuring behaviour complies with organisational values and organisation of work effectively to meet the demands of the role
  • Assist in the implementation and continual improvement of a behavioural based safety programme throughout the business.
  • Assist with incident & accident reporting/investigation and follow up with post incident recommendations and learning.
  • Check quality of works and ensuring site teams have laid to the correct specifications.
  • Be part of the company team which carries out new start inductions within the business.
  • Supply the relevant HSQE information to the company bid writers as part of the tender process.
  • Promote equality, diversity and human rights in all working practices


Qualifications and Experience

  • NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum)
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate (desired)
  • Full clean driving licence


Skills and knowledge

  • Good working knowledge of the construction industry as relates civils/M&E or utilities works
  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products / internet and email
  • A good understanding of safe working practices / basic H&S requirements
  • An understanding of all relevant trade disciplines
  • Leadership, planning and organisational qualities
  • Ability to compare actual works with contract drawings
