We are delighted to present an exciting and challenging opportunity for a flexible, talented Senior Masterplanner/Urban Designer to join a prestigious organisation on a permanent basis at their head office in Coventry.

The Role
In this position you will:

  • Work on a variety of UK projects-predominantly medium, large, and very large scale residential and mixed-use masterplans and housing layouts for both public and private sector developments.
  • Serve as the day-to-day contact for key project stakeholders.
  • Manage significant, high-profile projects by leading multi-disciplinary teams, including an in-house landscape team.
  • Prepare tender submissions, bids, and attend or present at project interviews.
  • Lead project teams, ensuring that each phase runs smoothly and meets quality standards.
  • Conduct site, context, and character appraisals to inform the design process for new developments.
  • Develop masterplan drawings, design strategies, and detailed illustrations that support core design principles.
  • Produce comprehensive Design Codes and Design and Access Statements featuring both written and graphic elements.
  • Collaborate with local communities and stakeholders through design workshops and public exhibitions.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • To excel in this role you will ideally have:
  • A postgraduate diploma or Master's in Urban Design, preferably built on an undergraduate degree in Architecture. Candidates with a Planning background should be able to demonstrate a high level of skill in delivering detailed masterplans and layouts.
  • Alternatively, candidates with less formal qualifications but an excellent track record and strong portfolio will be considered.
  • Experience working on UK residential and mixed-use development masterplans, either within Urban Design or in a detailed layout capacity.
  • A robust design background gained within a consultancy environment.
  • Proven project management skills, with experience managing complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
  • A solid understanding of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, with the ability to develop detailed codes and 3D briefs.
  • Excellent written communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, coupled with a genuine interest in community engagement.
  • A keen insight into business development and an understanding of project stakeholder needs within the residential sector.
  • The ability to produce high-quality hand-drawn sketches, demonstrating a strong eye for detail.

Qualifications:

  • RIBA-qualified with an Urban Design Master's/PG Dip or a Bachelors in Architecture with an Urban Design Master's/PG Dip or RTPI-qualified with an Urban Design Master's/PG Dip.
